I’ve been gathering some highlights of some of the reactions so far that I thought stood out. So far it’s been almost overwhelmingly positive. Phew.

Here’s some of my favorites.

Giant Bomb

Here’s a partial walkthrough of our E3 demo. Will give you a good idea of what it’s all about. Most of the music in the scene I had something to do with.

Polygon

Definitely my favorite read.

“The team’s ambition is to create nothing less than an instrument through which to communicate how music is made and then grant players the ability to mix and match songs with which they may already be familiar and, hopefully, discover their own hidden musical potential.”

Joystiq

“Fantasia: Music Evolved was very impressive. Harmonix has had a long string of hits with the Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and then Dance Central series, but this is something else, a game obsessed less with scoring and parties and more with the art and the magic of music itself. The company is working on something very special up in Boston, and we’ll look forward to it when it’s ready in 2014.”

Game Informer

We were surprisingly gifted a good number of awards and recognitions at this year’s E3 showing. This is one of them.

Fantasia: Music Evolved is the newest game from Harmonix, in an obvious partnership with Disney, where the player isn’t just performing, but interacting, creating, sculpting, and unleashing music into the world of Fantasia. It’s a brand new concept for a music game that I’m sure will blow people away.

More news will be coming out today and in the near future. Stay tuned.

This album is hard to describe. It’s soooort of a jazz album… although, when I mentioned we were making one while in the studio, I got reamed and I felt ashamed. We’re not improvising much, we did lots of overdubs, and we used compression (I know, right?). But, we did record most of it “live” in the same room – as you can see in the video(s) – soooo…

Whatever. It’s just songs with a saxophone playing the melodies. Kay, got it.

Now for the personnel:

Rainer Davies is a dream/nightmare; one of the most under-appreciated and misunderstood musicians I’ve ever met, which is a compliment. Dion Kerr is a facilitator of all things possible and aesthetically pleasing; a do-er; a romantic. Luke Moellman, our “producer”, is, the one and the only, Luke Moellman. All of these statements about these folks are a disgrace to the greatness that they each individually and unify-ingly represent.

So we wrote some songs, arranged them, and recorded them. Luke mixed them (which is an understatement) and got our package out the window. Reeve Schumacher (google him) did the stellar cover art, which you can experience in full glory with a physical digital spinning ROM audio disk.

I don’t have much to add about the music. It’s a thing you should just listen to if you’re curious enough by now. Go here (for now) to listen and buy. iTunes link to come.

Much love and thanks to all those who made Alligator Skin possible.

Christmas is a beautiful time of the year. A beautiful, busy, ridiculous time of the year. And for me, it’s also the first Christmas I get to celebrate with my now 9 month old boy who is now crawling and standing and bangs his head on things when we’re not looking.

So I decided to make it even busier for myself this year by recording a song for the annual Christmas mix tape A Beloved Christmas with Food, curated by the one and only Timothy Brown and his songwriting blog Food for the Beloved.

And yes, the song is about being busy, sleepy, and, therefore, picking out bad and/or confusing gifts.

Check out the other songs on the compilation, which are all fantastic. I also helped out Brian and Bonnie Fitch with some clarinet on their Ft. Wonder rendition of Frosty the Snowman.
